Overview

A Bill of Materials (BoM) includes three primary types of parts: Off-the-Shelf (OTS), Custom Parts, and Assemblies. OTS parts are either universal, made by multiple manufacturers with the same part number, or manufacturer-specific, made by one manufacturer with a unique part number. Custom Parts are either modified OTS parts, requiring additional processing, or parts made from raw materials. Assemblies are collections of parts from any category, with the project itself being the highest level assembly. Each part type has specific identification requirements to ensure proper categorization and traceability.

Off-the-shelf parts (OTS)

The parts can be further split into 2 subtypes

Universal Parts

These parts are not specific to any manufacturer; examples are fasteners, M10 bolts, etc. In other words, the same part with the same part number is made by different manufacturers. When you create a category for these parts in Integro you should indicate that it is a Universal Part category.

Manufacturer Specific

While a variety of suppliers may sell them, manufacturer-specific parts are parts that are only made by a single manufacturer and are identified by that manufacturer's unique part number.

Custom Parts

Modified Off-the-shelf parts

These parts initially belong to the OTS family of parts but require custom modifications, e.g., a hole needs to be drilled to secure it to another part, or it needs to go through a secondary process, such as painting. These parts should be given their own custom part number just like custom parts made from raw material, but they should also include the manufacturer and the manufacturer's part number.

Assemblies

An assembly is a collection of parts from any of the above categories. An assembly can be contained within one or more assembles within the same project. In fact, the project itself is the highest level assembly.
