The Rates tab (labelled "Rates" in the navigation) is where you configure the financial parameters that drive cost calculations across the entire proposal. It contains two sections: Markup Percentages and Chargeout Rates.
Markup Percentages
The markup grid defines the percentage that is added to internal costs to arrive at the external (customer-facing) price. Each row represents a cost category.
Grid Columns
| Column | Editable | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Category Name | No | The cost category (e.g., Materials, Labour, Sub-Contracts). These are predefined and cannot be changed. |
| Markup % | Yes | The markup percentage to apply to this category. Enter as a decimal between 0 and 1 (e.g., 0.25 for 25%). This column is only visible if you have financial and profit permissions. |
| Edited By | No | The person who last modified this markup value. |
| Edited On | No | The date and time of the last modification. |
How to Edit Markups
- Navigate to the Rates tab.
- Click on the Markup % cell for the category you wish to change.
- Enter the new percentage value (e.g., 0.30 for 30%).
- Repeat for other categories as needed.
- Click Save in the toolbar to apply the changes.
Note: Changing markup percentages affects the external pricing across all modules and stations in the proposal. The summary grid at the bottom shows the total of all markup values.
You cannot add or remove markup categories — these are defined at the system level.
Chargeout Rates
The chargeout rates table is a read-only reference showing the hourly rates used for labour cost calculations. These rates are either populated based on the proposal customer, or if none are available for this customer, they are populated from the default charge-out rates in the settings view.
Grid Columns
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Display Order | The sort order of the rate entry. |
| Process Name | The type of work or discipline (e.g., Mechanical Design, Electrical Build, Software Development). |
| Employee Level | The seniority level of the employee (e.g., Senior Engineer, Junior Engineer). Different levels have different rates. |
| Rate Per Hour | The hourly chargeout rate for this process and employee level combination. Only visible with financial and profit permissions. |
| Is Customer Defined | Indicates whether this rate has been specially agreed with the customer (as opposed to using the standard rate). |
| Edited By / Edited On | Audit information showing who last changed this rate and when. |
Understanding Chargeout Rates
When you allocate labour hours on a process (in the Modules/Stations area), the system uses these chargeout rates to calculate costs:
- The internal rate (average rate per hour) represents the actual cost to your organisation.
- The external rate (rate per hour from this table) is what will be charged to the customer.
- The difference between external and internal rates forms part of the profit margin.
If a rate is marked as Customer Defined, it means a special rate has been negotiated with the customer for that process/level combination. When adding labour processes, you can also override rates individually using the "Use Custom RPH" option on the labour grid.
