Overview of Module & Station Structure

Modified on Wed, 1 Apr at 7:54 PM

Introduction

The Modules tab is the core area for structuring the costing. The proposal structure is a hierarchical arrangement of modules and stations within the proposal. You start with the root of the proposal, which does not yet contain any modules or stations. From here, you can break the proposal down into smaller parts using modules, stations, and sub-stations. These are the default names, but your organisation may use different terminology.

This structure is used to design the layout of the project and track costs through parts, labour, sub-contracts, and any additional expenses required to complete the work. This information is collated and used to generate the financial breakdown of the entire proposal, visible in the summary badge in the top right-hand corner of the proposal page.

The hierarchy has three levels:

  1. Proposal Level (top level) — The overall project. Labour, sub-contracts, and expenses can be applied here.
  2. Module Level (main assembly) — Major sections or assemblies used to group stations. Labour, sub-contracts, and expenses can be applied here.
  3. Station Level (sub-assembly) — Individual components or work areas. Each station represents a section of the project. This is the only level where parts/materials can be added. Labour, sub-contracts, and expenses can also be applied here.

Important: Parts and materials can only be added at the station level. If you need to cost materials for a module, you must first create a station within that module.

Modules Overview Page

When you first click the Modules tab, you see the overview page showing all modules and proposal-level stations as card widgets. Each card displays key information at a glance.

Action Buttons

At the top of the page (with edit permission), you have three buttons:

  • Add Module — Create a new module or copy one from another proposal.
  • Add Station — Create a proposal-level station (not inside any module) or copy one from another proposal.
  • Add Product — Add products from the product catalogue directly to proposal-level stations.

Module Cards

Each module is displayed as a card widget with the following information and controls:

ElementDescription
ImageA thumbnail image of the module (if uploaded). Shows a gear icon if no image is set. Hover over the image to see a larger preview.
Title & DescriptionThe module name and a brief description. Click the title to navigate into the module.
Quantity ControlsPlus (+) and minus (-) buttons to adjust the module quantity. Useful when the machine contains multiple identical modules. If there are multiple identical modules in the proposal, increment the quantity instead of creating a separate duplicate. All costs are multiplied by the quantity.
Print Description ToggleA switch to include or exclude this module’s description in printed reports.
Station CountShows how many stations are contained within this module (e.g., "Contains 5 Stations").
Financial SummaryAn expandable section showing cost breakdowns. The bottom of each card displays the total external cost, total internal cost, and profit margin. The figure in parentheses is the cost multiplied by the quantity. Click the arrow on the right to expand a detailed breakdown.

When expanded, a detailed breakdown is displayed:

Shows:
  • Total module cost (external and internal)
  • Parts breakdown with margin %
  • Labour breakdown with margin %
  • Sub-Contracts breakdown with margin %
  • Expenses breakdown with margin %
If the module quantity is greater than 1, both single-unit and total costs are shown.
Action Icons
  • Edit (pencil icon) — Open a dialog to change the module title, description, and quantity.
  • Copy (copy icon) — Create a duplicate of this module with all its stations and data. The only value not copied is the Quantity, which is always set to 1.
  • Delete (trash icon) — Remove the module and all its contents. Requires confirmation.

Station Cards (Proposal Level)

Proposal-level stations appear below the module cards. They have the same layout as module cards but with additional actions:

  • Move — Move this station into a module or to the root of the proposal.
  • Copy and Move — Copy this station and select the location to which the copy should be added.

Drag and Drop Reordering

Both module and station cards can be reordered by dragging and dropping. Click and hold the drag handle icon, then drag the card to a new position. The display order is saved automatically.

A dialog appears with the following form. The Add Station form is identical.
